So New Year’s Day has come and gone, and what a spectacular coming and going it was! We went to a great party with a bunch of the sweetest people, what a treat. I even got to dance with my almost-12-year old – and my hat’s off to him, that dude’s really got rhythm! And he’s even kind enough to indulge me by appreciating (or pretending to, I can’t be sure) his mom’s old Punk favorite … remember ‚The Passenger‘ by the one and only Wild Man, Iggy Pop?
That has got to be my all time favorite dancing song ever, I can’t begin to tell you how happy it makes me. It brings back awkward teenager, party hard, crazy times. In short, I was … shock face, YOUNG then.
And suddenly it was January, 2014 was upon us, and I hadn’t even had time to think about what last year had been like, what I’d wish or work for this year, what I’d like to change, and stuff that I’d like to do or not do anymore … and that was it.
I got up in the morning, made breakfast and just rolled with it. I decided I wasn’t going to make any resolutions. Hopefully, I’ll be spontaneous, open for new things and happy about all the good things there are in my life. I love my husband, I love my kids, I love my friends, and I love my cats. I will embrace the good things that come along, and I will deal with the bad things.
But what about crafts, you ask? There are always projects, of course there are. I did finish another two smaller ones before Christmas. Red socks I never managed to snap a picture of (gave those to my lovely friend N.), and a blue and silver glittery lurex loop for my boy’s sweet friend, K.
And, excitingly, I’m knitting myself a cardigan also, which I have been working on off and on for 2 months now. It’s a beautiful, dark shade of teal, and I’m looking forward to finishing and wearing it so much. I got the general idea from a pattern on Ravelry that I’m not following (when do I ever?). I’m using a garter stitch, and it’s supposed to be shortish and probably square-cut once I’m done. It reminds me of a sweater I had when in high school. Again with the nostalgia? But anyway, you can get away with wearing pretty much anything these days, maybe the only thing positive about the whole 80s fashion reboot. Also, Berliners are – at best – tolerant, and ignorant at the worst when it comes to style. It’s one of the things I love best about this place, absolutely no pressure at all.
That’s it for today, I think. The days _are_ getting a tiny little bit longer again, so go catch the sun whenever you can, we’ve still got a rough patch ahead of us until the beginning of spring.
What about you? Have you made any New Year’s resolutions? Whatever they are, may your year 2014 be a good one!
